[Elecraft] Key jack question

Hello--
My K2 key jack works FB with a paddle but cannot handle a straight key. It
doesn't seem to matter whether "autodetect" is toggled or not, or for that
matter, "hand" key. Also, it does not seem to matter whether the key has a
mono or stereo plug.
The good news is that I'm finally (slowly!!) learning to use the paddle I
always ignored. However, it seems like the key jack, or something else, is
not working correctly. Do any of you have experience with a problem like
this?
