Ron, Earl, Donald and all,

First, Ron, No - I do not have DSL - only dial-up. My local
telephone company says their lines are a max capacity... :-)

Earl, You're right---- It _IS_ 10x the tuning rate (I wasn't
paying enough attention last night). I do hear the frequency
of the birdie being "stepped" as I tune through it!

Next, I took the top off (just a few minutes ago) and the set
is MOST sensitive to being tapped with a non-conductive rod in
the area of the PLL and VFO. For example - K13/14/15, T5, L30
etc.. In fact the whole front left quadrant of the RF board is
sensitive to being lightly tapped!!

The sensitivity to mechanical tapping almost has a Bell curve
as you tune through the birdie!! It's not sensitive as you
first come to it, goes thought a maximum and the slowly tapers
off.
It is the same on USB, LSB and CW - although (naturally) the
indicated frequency changes dependant on mode. The volume of
the birdie can be altered by the RF gain control - so it has
to be prior to that stage.

My current guess is that the K2 is either going into self
oscillation OR that there is a feedback loop that is only
effective and resonant at 28.7046 'plus or minus'!! The latter
seems doubtful to me - but there have been occasions when I've
been wrong <G>

Last point -- tuning in the birdie at 27.999 Mhz, the
sensitivity is limited to one component - K15 !!
Does this make any sense??

Once again, Thanks for everybodies input - I hopr to be able
to resolve this one :-)
