Well, I heard from Lumex and this is a special order part, with
tooling costs, etc. Perhaps someone else makes a 15x30mm backlight.

Fiber optic backlighting -- an LED feeds into a fiber optic
weave which is slipped under the LCD. Seems ideal! No idea
about price/availability, etc. 

I have to laugh sometimes, since we're down to modding dial
lights on the K1 - the rig is great, so all we have left is
cosmetic improvements. ;-)
