Thank you all very much for the suggestions. I really like the kits from
Ocean State Electronics but they are no longer for sale. I've seen a few
tube RX kits but they are very simple and AM only (I built one from Antique
Electronics Supply for my third grade science fair, 1st place! (I don't know
why I was so proud of myself that day, the kid that got the second place
ribbon just had a 2 liter soda bottle filled with water and food coloring
and would shake it in a circular motion to simulate a tornado) But I did
enjoy the rise I got from the teachers when I plugged the ground wire into
the bottom hole of the nearest power outlet, They thought I was going to
kill myself!! I have found plenty of places to buy tubes and vintage parts
(great big condensers, coil forms YEAH!) So now I am just looking for a good
set of plans. I think this is the next logical step from kit building
anyway. Don't get me wrong I will always be part of the Elecraft Wolfpack,
foaming at the bit to get the next kit. But if I want to apply for a job as
an Engineer for Elecraft someday when they open their east coast operations
facility to help fill the big DOD contract, I need to get some more smarts
about me.
P.S. If you write your e-mails in MS Outlook and run the spelling check,
Don't hit "Change All". I think I would be on my own if I had a problem
with my next Needlecraft kit.
