Hello John,
there should be no short at P6 as you describe it.
Looking to the schematic in Appendix B, K2 RF Board, Sheet 3 of 4 of the K2 manual, you may see 
there is a capacitor C224 over which Pin 2 of P6 is connected to the antenna jack J4 of the K2 -
- so there should be definitly no DC path between the two pins of P6. 

So I would suggest to have a close look at the pins of P6 (be sure you soldered the 2 pin 
connector to P6 "RF Aux RF" and not to P3 "Aux 12V") and C224 if they are soldered correctly. 
Only Pin 1 of P6 (that is the pin of P6 closest to the side panel) should be connected to 
ground.

Concerning the alignment of C55 on the KAT2  there are some notes of Gary Surrency within the 
KAT2 section of the Builder Resorces. You will not be able to get a reading of "000" when you 
tune C55 -- the best value to end up with may be "008" to "010" and that's ok.
