[Elecraft] K2 #3338 successful Part 2 tests

I made the same mistake regarding RFC1. The red color looks a lot like
brown if the light isn't just right. Fortunately, I discovered the
mistake when it came time to install the last choke and I discovered the
right one had already been used. A bit of swapping and swearing fixed
things. I suspect this is a point to watch. Red and brown can look
very much the same under certain lighting.

Subject: [Elecraft] K2 #3338 successful Part 2 tests

Hi,
K2 #3338 finished all Part 2 tests and alignment with no problems. Real
signals heard on 40m, using the outside receive-only antenna (active
whip). Exciting!
Only one part installed wrong, where I installed the 1000uH RFC in place
of the correct 100uH RFC (RFC1), and spent a long time hunting thru my
parts, looking in vain for the 1000uH choke, for RFC10. That was an easy
swap once I spotted the red band instead of the brown band in RFC1's
position.
Easy -140dBm/7150kc signal heard (preamp on) in Filters 1,2,4; -135dBm
in Fil 3 position--can't complain about that (though why Fil 3 is less
sensitive, I don't at the moment know). (HP8640B generator)

Thanks to those who wrote me about the diffuser being idiot-proof for
installation. Never occurred to me that might be the case; I just had to
check to make sure I wasn't installing it wrong-polarity. I think a note
could be put in the manual to indicate this, for the more anal types.

2/3 finished? Lots more toroid winding still to come....
Steve
