[Elecraft] Humidity and ESD

Those voltages Jim measured even in the seacoast environment, encourages my
usual grounding myself and any leads of a static sensitive part before
handling them. Of course, I guess the indoor humidity was somewhat less
than outside due to the air conditioning, but 500 volts certainly can damage
parts, and calls for the anti static procedures.

Even Radio Shack carried wrist straps at one time; and they are a good
investment along with a conductive pad for the workbench top, and avoidance
of static generating carpet below the bench. The better quality straps are
the best long term investment if you do any building. They are available
from tool vendors and the distributors of electronic parts. Even computer
stores often sell them for use in changing memory sticks.
