For those mortals WITHOUT the benefit of a K2 front end, middle and rear, we
have to use the likes of parametric EQ and DSP to TRY and get AF that can be
understood from all the other audio muck and mud.

Take a look at www.bhinstrumentation.com specifically; NEIM1031. I've had
one of these units for about a month; on 2metres, Aircraft flutter? any
other frequency... static?, crashes?... this box kills them all, it's like
listening to FM on HF. I've tried it with CW signals and it's still PC
readable so those with CW ears shouldn't have a problem. I've heard that
someone tried to use it on SSTV but I've no idea how he got on!

I showed the unit to an OM at the local club who is of the opinion that "if
it don't have valves, it's not worth looking at" I took the cheapest
nastiest FM radio you can find and tuned it to to a music station and turn
on the DSP! I did this while Phil Spectors Wall of sound was playing. "The
walls came a tumbling down!" turned the cacophany of noise into a vocal
solo. sure there were instruments 'near' frequency of the vocals, but
highly useable. At the upper end of the adjustment (8 settings including
OFF) there is a flanging effect that can be heard. The OM's response was
"BLOODY 'ELL!" I need one of those!

I think the website has some sound files that can be downloaded, if they are
not there now, email and ask.. they'll send them.

It gets my very rare award of "Very well worth the money".

On the Dayton topic...
The only thing missing from a K2 seems to be the integrated coffee machine!
or the new Elecraft EH antenna???
