Mornin' Brett (VR2BG),
Thanks again for your comments re EQP and suggested alterations.
I want to argue to keep the SPC content in the exchange.
I suppose that the bare minimum exchange would just be Call Signs. But
that's not much fun! Having the RST has some small value but I think I
would tend scrap that field. Keeping the Rig & s/n is useful for folks
going after the Elecraft Century Club certificate. Similarly, keeping the
STATE is useful for chasing after the Elecraft W.A.S. - And if you're
gonna have STATE, you might as well have SPC (State/Province/Country) so
everyone has a similar exchange format. Besides, I think having the QTH
is of general interest to most ops.
Now in place of RST, I'd suggest having a NAME field. I think that will
add variety to the exchange and also add a little to the friendly nature
I hope that EQP will retain.
Gee, with these fields, you have almost all the elements of a standard
friendly QSO, anyway; its just laid out proforma.
I suspect the scoring would benefit from some tweaking. Its there mainly
to serve as a goal or progress indication and to keep the competitive
juices flowing (oops... EQP isn't a 'Contest' - its a 'Party' !).

The exchange really doesn't need to have the country in it. It is also
redundant information. It's also a pain. I highly suggest scrapping it.
Without multipliers, state/province is not exactly necessary. Rig type &
serial number is unique & relevant information, although EQP isn't a
serious event & therefore doesn't have log checking (no logs need to be
submitted anyway). Scrapping state/province may be worth considering.
For folks not into rate, all this & more will no doubt be sent during the
course of a contact, so no worries.
With Elecraft QSOs a bit sparse out here, EQP is cool in that you can
work
others & they don't need to understand the contest exchange & you don't
need
them to send anything other than RST to log 'em.
The current exchange, for me at least, also seems to go down well in
BERU, so if it isn't changed then please don't change the weekend. ;^)
