You don't really need (or even want) to utilize any product to hold the
enameled wire in place. Once you get a few turns started, the friction of
the winding itself on the core does a good enough job of this. Just try to
get the windings reasonably tight and you will be good to go. Once the
toroid is wound you can easily fuss with the spacing if it is not to your
liking.
