The double grounding reduces the inductance of the crystal cases to 
ground -- thus reducing any possble filter blow-by, cause by coupling of 
currents in the crystal case to other components.

The effect is very subtle, but I believe KI6WD had some pretty impressive 
Spectrogram plots demonstrating the difference in the skirts.
