I use a trunklip type mount for hamsticks - the mount is on the side of my 
4runner (SUV) hatchback, by the lower corner - I believe the mount was a 
Comet product - I don't have a base spring, but I use a bungee cord about 
two feet up from the base (other end is roof rack) to support it a little - 
a ground strap between the trunk and body may also be helpful.

I have happily and effectively used my K2 (10w) as my mobile rig - why slum 
with anything else?-)
