I've noticed this behavior, too. Often the tuner will find an "OK" match
at about 1.3-1.5:1, then hitting tune again will find a 1:1 match.

Is that a firmware bug? After all, there are only 131,072 combinations of
the 17 relays involved -- how long could it take to find the one match?
<grin>

I've also noticed that while the KAT100 does a good job of matching
random antennas on 40m and higher, it struggles more on 80m and 160m.

In one example, the KAT100 won't tune my 125 foot doublet on 160m.
However, my venerable Kenwood AT-250 will (barely).
