Hi-

It is time to get a new battery... On first glance that sentence probably
gives the impression that I am dissatisfied, but read on...

I purchased the KBT2 internal battery option over two years ago and have
used its PowerSonic 2.9 Ah SLA gel cell to power my K2, both during the
build as well as for the entirety of my operating since that time. In fact,
only when I field tested the KPA100 did I find need to vary my routine and
use a transformer power supply to fuel the K2. On average, the K2 gets a
good workout keeping me company in my shack or shop 8-10 hours per
day. I haul my K2 along on holidays and visits and sometimes even use it
while traveling in the car, so I am rarely without it.

Following the maintenance advice of the experts, I am diligent about keeping
the battery properly charged. To this end, using a Power Sonic Smart Charger
and independent charge input jack (both gifts from Bob Lewis AA4PB), I
recharge the battery nightly. I have had a few instances where the lo-bat
warning has beeped at me, but as a matter of practice try not to allow such
a deep cycle.

Last week, the capacity of the SLA gel cell dropped substantially,
necessitating that I bite the bullet and order a replacement. Until the
replacement arrives, it looks as though I'll have to get out the power
supply for a spell <G>. Roughly $20 for two solid years of sound QRP
performance sounds like a good deal to me.
