Hi,

I don't see a lot of difference between the OMNI-VI and the K2 on copying
weak signals. However, on PSK31, when there is a strong Pactor signal on
one end of the band (14069.5) it completely desenses the receiver on the
rest of the band (14070 to 14073 for the Omni-VI, and reduces the signal
strength several dB. Depending on the signal, it can wipt out the rest of
the band for other signals. On the K2, no such desensing occurs, and you
usually can copy through it. The filters help both transceivers.

thank you, Earl, for this and many other interesting posts:

A personal observation, A/B, between my Mp (with INRAD IF mod, AGC mod,
audio hiss mod), and my K2 trying to copy weak signals on 160 meters DURING
the 160 meter contest.

Weak signals amid the S-9+ QRM could not reaidly be copied with the MP
because the signal and the background noise floor seemed to be pulsing in
random syncopation to nearby strong signals. In the K2 that pulsation was
not observed and the same signal heard on the same antenna could be readily
copied.
