Hi Robert,
I can answer this one since I went through the exact same confusion a
few days ago :-) Don't install R6 now. There are several tests and
adjustments to be made before R6 can safely be installed. It's not
installed until step 5 on page 17 of the manual (after the bridge null
adjustment).
The short story is that if the SWR bridge circuit in the KAT2 isn't
working properly and R6 is installed, your K2 may try putting out more
power than its PA can handle. Keeping R6 out until after verifying the
SWR detector is working properly prevents this.
