By all means, build and install the noise blanker!  Unlike some rigs, 
this one seems to really work.

Same experience here.  Kinda makes me wonder why most rigs have 100W 
output as standard.  Oh, I know there are times when nothing but more 
power will do, but so far I'm amazed at what 5 - 10W gets me.  And it's 
great being able to run off a little 12V-3A supply that doesn't give me 
a backache every time I try to move it.  It's been a real eye-opener for 
me.
