[Elecraft] Filter loss

Stewart,
The OP1 filter and the varible crystal filter are two separate filters. The
variable filter is optimized for narrow bandwidths (CW) and in my experience
it does this job just dandy - but when the bandwidth is adjusted so that the
width is much greater than 1000 Hz or so, the performance degrades because
the passband ripple becomes greater. While it is usable as a filter for SSB
reception, it is not optimum for that task.
As a result, you may be comparing apples and oranges. If the loss when the
CW filter is adjusted for a narrow bandwidth is much greater than the OP1
filter then I might become concerned, but for wide bandwidth use with this
CW filter I figure one can only 'get what you can out of it' - realizing
that it is designed for CW use.

On SSB if I switch to FL2 (2.0khz) I get a loss of about 6dB compared to FL1
OP1, the same loss occurs with FL3 & FL4.
Is this normal ?
I have done the 2.5khz filter mod which works well.
