[Elecraft] re: good news and bad

This just happened to me. If you can move the K2 to a different =
location (across the room, for testing purposes) you might have a =
different result. I did this and the K2 signal cleared right up when =
monitored with my Omni V. I also recorded the results on my computer and =
the resulting=20
waveform was perfect. When the K2 was very close to the Omni V the =
resulting waveform was ugly and asymmetric.=20
Your receive audio sounds exactly likewhat I was experiencing near the =
power supply. the K2 is VERY sensitive in this regard.

Gurus:
The good news is I finished the K2 this afternoon and hooked =
=3D
it up to an antenna this evening. Everything seems to work and =3D
responded well to alignment and calibration. And, except for Xmit =3D
current, all voltages and currents are within spec.
The BAD news is that the receive CW lacks a clear single =3D
tone. Instead I get a weak watery, thrushy tone that lacks definition. =
=3D
The VFO is noisy when turning and makes a bubbling sound as I approach =
=3D
the tuning point on SSB. I have adjustable power (0-10+) out on Xmit, =
=3D
but again the recv CW signal in my Kwd TS-950SDX is thrushy (as though I =
=3D
am blowing on a mike). The sidetone is beautiful (wish the =3D
receive/transmit signal sounded as nice).
Tomorrow, I will start to troubleshoot and could use some =
=3D
pointers. Nothing in the troubleshooting section addresses this type of =
=3D
problem. I suspect the crystal oscillators, product detector and signal =
=3D
injection section. Where would you suggest I start my search?=3D20
