I took my K2/100 with all the peripherals to the SeaPac hamfest to assist Lisa with the Elecraft booth. All was well with my K2/100 and with my LDG AT11-MP tuner
while at the hamfest. Unknown to me at the time was the fact the K2 had been set to use a transverter while I was away from the booth. The transverter was not
attached but the menu setting for the transverter had been set to on to show a prospective customer how it could be done. When I got my rig home this afternoon I
found the strange setting and turned it off. The problem lies with my sidetone. I don't have one any longer. I went to St L in the menu and hit display and found the
result was U6-25. I reset this to U8-4. I then turned off the rig, waited, and turned it back on. No sidetone. Went back into St L and hit display. It was again set
to U5-25. I reset this to U8-4. Repeat this cycle 20 or 30 times. Still no sidetone.
I took the rig apart and pressed all the socketed chips and reseated all of the pin connections between all of the boards. Put the rig back together and proceeded
through the St L reset repeat loop. Still no sidetone. I listen on a neighboring rig and I know I am transmitting a tone but there is no sidetone to assist me in sending.
I dug through the elecraft archives I have stored and found another suggestion from Gary Surrency :
For reliability, it sounds like he should re-heat or re-solder all of the connections on the control board, especially the ones in the area of U8, Q5, U10, RP3, RP7, C24,
C22, C33, C35, C36, RP5, U9 pin 8.
I will try this later today after I find the bulb for my magnifying light and hope for the best. My other option is to do a system reset and blow away all of my settings.
I have written down all of the CAL settings so I can reset them given enough time. I've had no problems in many months and have used it extensively. Does anyone
have any other ideas I can try?
Help!
