This really depends on how tone-deaf you are, Dan.  I built it and am 
glad I did as it enables tuning an incoming signal to precisely the same 
as your sidetone (offset) setting. As recommended, I fitted a miniature 
green LED in the centre of the square Rate button.  In a way, I was 
surprised that Elecraft did not include this mod in the Revision B 
board.  There was a .PDF file on Tom N0SS's site but I can't find it 
now.  I do have the file if you would like it sending.  It gives a 
description, circuit and PCB layout.

Sverre LA3ZA did produce a CMOS version of the device using an LMC567. 
He said it drew 0.9mA instead of 20mA in the original LM567 version, but 
I did not build that one as I was quite happy with the original. Current 
was not an issue with me and I could not readily find an LMC567 anyway.
