Finished K2(3264) about three weeks ago. THis is the basic cw rig, =
however intend to build the KPA 100 and ssb options a little later on.
The building experience was quite enjoyable. I would advise those who =
are considering building a kit this involved for the first time to not =
worry about a completion date. Just take your time read and study the =
manual, make sure of every step, and enjoy the process.
After each component was installed an ohmeter was used to check for good =
electrical connections from the lead to a pad somewhere on the trace. =
Also to check for shorts between windings on the transformers.
The soldering station I used was the Weller WCC 100 that I already =
happened to have.
One of the big reasons I wanted to build a kit was for the learning =
experience and to gain some knowlege of radio fundamentals. The K2 has =
become a sort of radio electronics lab for me.
Let me say to those thinking of building this rig but not sure of their =
ability, that it is quite doable. The only kit I have built before was a =
simple cw filter.
Finally just want to say that suceesfully completing the K2 has been my =
most rewarding experience in Amateur Radio and thanks to the fine folks =
at Elecraft.
