Hi James....I also have the SM6 mic and tried it on my K2 with disappointing
results....not enough output level to drive the K2!!! E G A D S! The mic
works great on my ICOM 751A where I get very good reports so I know the mic
is good.

I also use a Shure Bros 444d on the K2 and get great audio reports from a
really tough crowd on 75 meters every morning....but again I have to crowd
the mic to get decent audio drive!!

I did buy from Elecraft the Heil mic "made" for the K2 and get good drive
from this mic and my friends tell this would be the one to use for dxing but
they prefer the sound of the 444d.....much smoother to their old ears....HI!

So, there is a simple mod to the SSB board on the Elecraft site (gota dig
for it) that greatly improves the mic drive of the SSB tx but I haven't had
enough energy to try this....I haven't read/heard any downside to the mod so
may be some day? Would be nice if Elecraft were to incorporate this mod in
their SSB board. I think it consists of on active device.....

Hope this helps....73 /3345
