You may want to take a look at the coax loss charts on the handbooks and/or
at Davis RF,  http://www.davisrf.com/ham1/coax.htm#attenuation. Then based
on the length of your run and freq, you can get an idea how much loss you
will have with the different types of coax.

If it's cheap it probably isn't good quality :-)

Good quality coax aka "low-loss" is noticeably thicker than the cheap stuff,
has a multi-strand core, good, thick shielding and thick insulation. An
example of low loss coax is RG-213.
