Ron has made a lot of good points, and certainly Roy should try building his
own antenna.
If you have the room for a long run of wire, Roy, an antenna that will blow
the socks off the Windom is the IDEZ, inverted Double Extended Zepp. It is
simply a dipole on 80 m whose legs are 159 feet long. Put it up on a push
up pole, and have the legs about 6 feet or more off the ground. Feed with
twin lead or 450 ohm ladder line to balun equipped tuner. It is just 5/8
wave on each leg. Can be made for any band and the higher ones. 88 feet
does well on 20m for example and provides gain on the higher bands as well.
It will be an S unit or two over a dipole, (or Windom), at least. More the
higher on bands you go. It is a true balanced antenna not subject to the RF
unbalance at feed point of the Windom.
