On WINDOM ANTENNAS:
My 2 cents worth ... I have a Fritzel Windom (no longer
made or sold in the US) ... it's 130' in length, with a 100'
leg, a 30' leg, a 4:1 heavy-duty balun, and fed with 100'=20
of RG-58U (I think ... the small diameter stuff anyway) ...
The K2 loads it well (on 30 meters I need some extra=20
inductance, supplied by MFJ's tuner-extender) on all HF
bands (it's not designed for 160, and my IC-746Pro loads it=20
on 6 meters ... how well it WORKS on 6 meters is something=20
I have yet to determine ... I'm not a 6m enthusiast ... the=20
decline in the current sunspot cycle may change my mind <g> ...
Its suspended in an inverted vee config ... abt 40' up at
the apex ...
I have ARRL WAS/WAC/ARRL QRP DXCC with 2-5 watts, and am=20
closing in on 200 REAL DXCC countries with a mix of QRP/QRO=20
ops ... I like the antenna ... it gets out as well as anything I could=20
put up in a subdivision with C,C & R's ... you need enough real=20
estate for the length, but you've probably got that or you wouldn't=20
have posed the question <g>) ...
I say give it a try ... it won't out-perform a directional array, but it =
will do well and won't have the problems that trap dipoles present ...
