[Elecraft] SSB Filter Question

After reworking s/n 314 with A-to-B upgrade including all new crystals ,
psk31 mod, etc. I have spent some quality time with the rig learning to use
SSB. I am now ready to question how things should work. What I find is
that FL3 and FL4 produce excessive attenuation to the point that they reduce
my ability to copy a signal rather than enhance it. I would expect a slight
attenuation but on both a busy and a quiet band copy difficulty increases so
significantly that it seems to not be worth the trouble.

I believe that I am using the original default filter settings with
alignment done using spectrogram. FL1 and FL2 are both set to OPT1 and
should be identical. FL3 is set for 1.80 and FL4 is set for 0.70. All
measurements were taken with the Audio Filter switched out of the circuit.

Plots of the LSB filter setup can be found at
 http://home.attbi.com/~flb/K2/SSB_Filt.htm

I would very much like to get this working properly before I consider making
any of the modifications suggested by K!6WX.

Thanks,
Fran
