Most solar panels put out about 18 volts in full sunlight. You will need a
regulator circuit to bring this down to an acceptable voltage. Some panels
are self regulating and have this circuitry built in.
I run 325 watts (more to come later) of solar panels on my motorhome. I
have six 6 volt house batteries and when they are all new, have a
theoretical 660 amp hours of storage. That ought to run my K2 in the QRP
mode for about 5 years! I also have a 2k inverter in the rig and power
everything from my inverter when boondocked except my air conditioners. In
actuality, my K2 is one of the least expensive items I have in the
motorhome, amp hour wise.
Its the tv, satellite receiver and satellite internet systems that draw most
of my amp hour credits!
Of course, building more K2 components really requires that we be plugged in
somewhere to heat the soldering iron.
