Finally finished the K1 last night and in no time at all had it driving 5
W+ into 50 ohm dummy load on all 4 bands (40-30-20-15). Peaking the filters
with an external wattmeter was dead easy. Can't believe it. Everything went
exactly as per the book. The only tricky bit was trying to spread the VFO
coil to give the right coverage but it was soon done. This is a fantastic
kit. If you follow the instructions carefully and know how to solder there
is no reason whatsoever why you shouldn't succeed first time. Celebration
was limited to a cup of tea a piece of fruit cake!

BTW, just how much power is the K1 supposed to deliver, I had it doing
about 8W at 14V supply. Am I likely to cook anything. I was worried about
going for more.

I intend to build a simple ATU and get on the air with a long wire whilst I
wait for the KAT1 to be delivered.

Thanks to all on the list for the useful advice.
