Tom, I have such a setup.  I think it sounds terrific!  I listen to myself
on my
756PRO2.  The gain setting on the D104 is critical, as it's capable of way
more output than the K2 needs.  Fortunately, I have a spectrum analyzer (!).

And this mic setup works great with the K2 VOX.  I already had a nice chrome
D104 and amplified stand I was going to sell but now I think I'll keep it.
I also
have the K2/Heil mic and that sounds excellent, like FM.  But I like the
D104 better.
With my bassy voice and the room acoustics (this is a MAJOR factor never
mentioned by hams), plus the desire to not have a hand mic in the shack, the
D104 was an easy choice.  And it looks great too!
