Neil & John:
Consider using the 5th harmonic of the 4MHz oscillator and beating it
against WWV at 20 MHz. When WWV at 20 MHz is the appropriate (usable)
strength, this is probable the very best way to get your 4MHz osc on freq.
The important thing is to catch WWV on 20MHz when it's about the same
signal strength as the 5th harmonic of the 4MHz osc. This means NOT
terribly strong. The closer you can match the two signal strengths, the
deeper the null you can achieve when zero beating the 4MHz osc. Sometimes,
if WWV is blisteringly strong, I'll disconnect the antenna and use a clip
lead in its place... this usually drops the WWV signal down to a level
which is much more usable.
Of course, don't forget to allow your K2 to warm up for at least 30 minutes
before you attempt to do any adjustments.

Tom Hammond N0SS
PS
Wish I could claim to have thought of using the 5th harmonic of the 4MHz
osc, but that honor belongs to someone else. I just happen to believe it's
a better way to go.
