Likely discussed at the website.  Here is what it says on the order page:

The new shield ensures a good RF connection between the shield and the 
K2 enclosure.  I do not recall what symptom led to the redesign.

I have the new on but have yet to install it. (too hot and humid in my 
shack this month).
