[Elecraft] Power for KAT100

Don,
Well, some of us are too thrifty (also = cheap <G>) to buy the rigrunners -
that is why we construct those 'Y' cables.
Advice for everyone though -- for us who are making those 'Y' cables, we
should be putting a fuseholder into each leg (and I need to take my own
advice too in some cases) before bad things do happen. A trip to an
automotive store and not too many coins will buy a whole handful of in-line
fuseholders and fuses (the ATO size seems to me a good choice) which can
stay in the junkbox until needed (I'll do it first trip out tomorrow - I
promise)
Having put in the fuses, now we can put an LED (with an appropriate
resistor) across the fuse and have all the features of a real rigrunner
except the convenient housing.

Make up several barrel connector to powerpoles with 18 ga wires and a 12 ga
powerpole to powerpole then plug the powerpoles into a 5 or 8 slot rigrunner
now you can power your K2/100, KAT100, KRC2, transverters or whatever and
each slot is fused with a led under each fuse that lights if the fuse blows.
Rigrunners are great I have several of them. I even use them to connect
several solar panels to one of my controllers. Just about every 12 volt
radio or device I own I have fitted with powerpoles.

Tom, et al:
Series diode D10 in the K2 is there to protect against someone (like me)
from connecting his 35A 12VDC power supply to the K2, BUT with the
polarity
reversed... without D10, as a friend always reminds me, "Bad things will
happen".
A couple fella suggested adding one (or more) 'taps' off of the power
connector which plugs into the KPA100. That's what I've done... one heavy
(#12) wire and a couple #12 wires, all going to appropriate connectors.
