Ah!  Yes, wideband headphones will certainly help you find the hiss!

One of the Field testers for the KDSP2 removed the low-pass filter parts
from his KAF2 and put them on his KDSP2 between the J309 muting switch and
the connector. Works fine, but probably not mechanically rugged.
