[Elecraft] Anyone try 60 meters yet?

Hi Wayne. Hard to say which "channel" has the most activity. It seems to
vary.

Some are calling CQ. But most have been gentlemen about it. Most seem to
relinquish the "channel" rather than seem like a hog. If you don't call CQ,
I guess you can just say "Yo", "Hello", "Anyone Out There" to get a QSO
going.

Haven't heard any really loud signals. Seems like folks are keeping the
power down.

I have set up the 5 channels in memory with my other rig. It makes it easy
to change channels.

Been getting QSL cards for these "new" contacts.

Subject: [Elecraft] Anyone try 60 meters yet?

Has anyone been on the new 60 m band yet? If so, which of the five discrete
channels did you find to be the most popular as a ham calling frequency?

I have one of my K2s modified for use on 60 meters, as described on our web
site
(http://www.elecraft.com/Apps/k2on60.htm). (We're still planning to offer a
60-m
adapter later this year, but I can't give you a date yet.) I have yet to
make a
QSO, though, as I was on vacation most of the past two weeks.

In case you missed it, the August QST includes an excellent FAQ about 60
meters
starting on page 44. Two important takeaways from this article: (1) calling
CQ
seems to be discouraged (which *is* discouraging), and (2) the five discrete
channels allocated for ham use are "channel-centers," not USB
suppressed-carrier
frequencies. They provided a list of the five actual carrier frequencies
you'd
want to tune your ham transceiver to (1.5 kHz below each channel center
frequency):

    5330.5, 5346.5, 5366.5, 5371.5, and 5403.5 kHz

As for calling CQ, I gather that there's no *official* prohibition on
this--it's
probably OK, used sparingly. Lacking that as a means for making QSOs, I
guess
we'd be left with pre-arranging 60-m QSOs on other bands or via phone or
e-mail.
