The denoiser, by its very nature, will cause some amount of distortion. The
issue is always to find the right balance between the fidelity you want
versus the distortion you'll tolerate, and how all that ultimately relates
to your ability to copy the other signal and not suffer listening fatigue.

The gain menus are in place to help *balance* the audio output when the
KDSP2 is switched between modes and especially when toggling the denoiser on
and off.  If you operate mostly CW, you won't need much gain in the
denoiser, if any, because the CW tone "autocorrelates" well and as a result
the signal is not diminished much by the denoiser.  SSB operation usually
requires some gain because the denoiser suppresses some of the audio
content.
