This is consistent with my results.
I set my crystal filter and DSP to the same widths at each filter
position.  Then use the combined filtering when setting the crystal filter
response with Spectrogram.  Gives a much more symmetrical and even pattern.

I've just posted "with" and "without" Spectrogram images on my web site.
Images are shown with 400 Hz, 200 Hz and 100 Hz bandwidth settings. AGC on
or off doesn't seem to make any difference to the results.
