If you run a KPA100 into a high SWR, then you will likely think the upgrade
is a need. Otherwise, you won't be able to tell the difference, on a
practical basis, in almost all cases.
Look for an announcement from Elecraft on upgrade procedures later this
month.
There are NO mods needed to upgrade the MCU code, just re-programming the
MCU chip itself.
There is an unrelated problem that has shown up on some of the first 100
kits (any KDSP2 shipped in May) where the DSPx is dead or the unit exhibits
a "crackling" sound. This involves a capacitor change on the DSPx module
itself, which I have been performing on a case-by-case basis.
In the meantime, if you are experiencing a problem, let me know directly and
I'll try and help get it resolved.
