Hi Ken,
There are abolutely NO changes in the filter characterstics due to the
presence or absence of AGC. During a sweep frequency measurement test
however, the AGC will attempt to increase the receiver's gain as the
sweep frequency falls down the skirts of the filters, and will attempt
to decrease the receiver's gain when the sweep frequency is within the
passband. It's just doing it's job, but it will throw off measurements
because the receiver's gain is constantly changing. By turning off the
AGC, you are simply guaranteeing that the receiver's gain remains stable
for the duration of the test.
I predict that you'll find the KDSP2 will greatly improve the ease of
listening with many qso's, and further, that it will make possible some
contacts which would otherwise have been difficult at best, if not
impossible otherwise.
Have fun!
