I just installed a K160RX on #3430, without incident.

It doesn't seem reasonable that so many things could go wrong.

Some observations:

The receiver has lots of gain, messed up low pass filters might not be =
noticed on receive,
so the problem may also be occuring on receive.

The capacitors that you installed at C13 and C14 in the band pass filter =
can't cause trouble on 40m.

The capacitor that you installed at C75 in the PLL can't cause trouble =
on 40m.

You didn't change C68 or C153, right? Those mods were in the K2 kit =
already.

So, back to the low pass filter.

If you pull the 160m board, and put jumper W1 back, do you get more =
power?

If so, then a good guess is that a T50-1 5uH inductor on the 160m board =
is not
being switched off of the low pass filter busses J14 7,8,9 and J14 =
12,13,14.
I wonder if one of the inductors is mounted into the wrong plated =
through hole? Hanging
L1 or L2 on those lines would kill off the low bands pretty quick, but =
wouldn't bother the
high bands much.

If the problem was with the K1 relay, C1 or C3 would kill the high bands =
too.

As to the smoke problem. Nasty, since most of the radio still works. =
There are a few parts
on the RF board stuck between the control and display boards. Are Q23, =
C111, and R113 still
in good shape? Did a plated through hole blow out? There may be some =
around R115 that have
to take a lot current?

Don't know if this will help, just a thought or two.
