[Elecraft] A Limey comes to Pacificom?

Apologies for the OT bandwidth but here seemed as good a place to 
enquire as anywhere.

October this year I'm 50 so the second holiday of a lifetime beckons (the 
previous holiday of a lifetime being a trip to Aruba and the Florida Keys to 
celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and also a milestone birthday for 
the XYL). Hawaii was originally planned but now I discover Pacificon is on 
just a week before.

I'm assuming San Ramon is N San Francisco and would be served by SF 
airport (is San Jose a better bet?) . The  idea will be to arrive for Pacificon 
and head east towards Vegas catching some of the sites - any advice on 
what is feasible/must not be missed within a two week trip would be 
appreciated. May get to use some air miles so an open-jaw UK-SF, Vegas-
UK may not work.

Looks like the San Ramon Mariott is 79$ a night for Pacificon but 179$ a 
night for Oct 15th - anyone suggest somewhere nice (and reasonable) 
either downtown SF or in the valley (if we fly into San Jose) or elsewhere for 
the first night.

I've been to SF and San Jose on business a couple of times thanks to work 
on Java but not really had much opportunity to explore so pointers to 
websites, local info etc would be appreciated.

Not 100% sure we can make this work yet but it seems a great way to avoid 
postage and UK import duty on the KDSP2 (whoops haven't suggested 
suitable birthday presents to the XYL yet).
