To amplify on Ron's comments -=20
Newer K2s are much less sensitive to overdrive, and less prone to =
consequent IMD; they include a SSB mod "fix" designed for older K2s by =
John, KI6WX. Of course, overdrive is never desirable.
In one case, I needed to add an isolation transformer in the line =
connecting the K2 phones jack to the sound card's line input. You'll =
know you need it if you get a ground loop, or hum, in the received =
audio. These transformers are available at Radio Shack - just be sure =
the impedence ratio is 1:1.
Ron's switch idea is simple and neat. If you want your computer to key =
your transmitter automatically when you hit the "send" icon in the =
software, you can fashion a simple electronic switch that is driven by =
the RTS or DTR line of a serial port in the computer. An optoisolator =
circuit is shown in the Elecraft Application notes; a transistor circuit =
is detailed in the help file of Digipan, a PSK-31 freeware program.
