Mike,
You will have a good antenna if you can eliminate the coax feed and
substitute either ladder line or open wire feeders. For best results, use a
short (0 to 10 feet) length of coax (longer only if necessary) from the KAT2
to a 1:1 current balun (bead balun is best, but the 15 turn coil may do the
job adequately if it is
formed as a cylinder - use a piece of 4 inch PVC as a coil form) - connect
the output of the balun to the parallel feedline and it should tune well on
all bands. Should you find that you have trouble tuning on one or more
bands, change the feedline length by about 4 to 5 feet (or even 1 to 2 feet
for finer steps) at a time until you reach a length where the system
(antenna/feedline/balun) feeds OK on all bands of interest.
BTW, the 100 foot flattop should perform with a good broadside directional
pattern for 80 through 30 meters - above that the radiation pattern will
begin to develop additional lobes. An 88 foot flattop is good for a single
pair of lobes for 80 thru 20 meters and a 44 foot flattop will produce a
similar pattern for 40 through 10 meters. See www.cebik.com for additional
information.
