A high quality surf board wax (e.g. Mr. Zog's) applied sparingly from 
the feedpoint out about 10 feet in both directions will help keep 
electrons from sticking to the wire.  If you have a QRO rig, holding the 
key down for 5 - 10 minutes will warm the wire slightly and allow the 
wax to penetrate the surface of the wire.  For best results, apply weekly.
