Though an HP-48 is a wonderful calculator, there is a projec that some of the students in PARC (see url below) have begun:
- rig control using a Cybiko PDA (circa $15 + $5-$7 s/h on eBay)
Now the older version (called the Cybiko Classic) has a built in serial port and a very well developed and free SDK. We'll post experiences as we proceed here, but thought some on this list might be interested in this approach before school resumes ! There is already some code for using these as APRS "terminals", see http://www.kr1st.com/cybiko.htm
The newer version of the Cybiko PDAs (Cybiko Xtreme) is great as a remote device used with the Classic as a target controller. Oh yes, these PDAs included a low power 900MHz wireless link (range 100ft or so).
One of my todos is to upgrade (and re-align the filters) on a K2, that will be available come late August/early Sept if I am lucky. In the meantime, the basic rig control using a Cybiko is targeted for a the PC controlled TenTec Pegasus.
Back to herding cats, er working on IT projects...
