Hmm...not that Eric and Wayne need new projects, but
how about this: a 40m Novice-portion only version of
the Wilderness SST=20

at <$100? Yep, would need a more complex VFO like the K1
to cover 50 kHz, but.......

I can see this as being a popular thing with clubs/new members,
since the real handicap of the SST must be the narrow VFO
coverage.=20
