Julian, look at what you might could do with the SSM2165 VCA chip that
is used for the audio compressor and mic amp in the K2. I would expect
that under the proper operating conditions it would tend to maintain
the output level reasonably constant.
Have you considered an outboard unit for such a device? This approach
would avoid changing anything within or about your K2.
