Hi Eddy:
While you have probably received lots of replies, I'll add my comments:
The answer is "no" to the passband and "rarely" for the notch.
I have always had these features on my previous radios and, like you, was
concerned that I might miss them on the K2. After 18 months with the K2,
the passband is not missed at all and I use a ClearSpeech DSP for the RARE
occasion that I need a notch. When operating SSB (virtually 100% of my use),
it is possible to place the optional filter settings on either side of the
main passband, thus giving a rough simulation of passband tuning -- even
this feature is rarely used.
The bottom line really is that the K2 receiver is so good (ie: quiet AND
sensitive), that the notch and passband are hardly missed; there just does
not seem to be the "junk" in the passband that I noticed from previous
radios (mostly high-end Kenwoods and Drakes).
To give you perspective on the type of operating I do, it is mostly NET
check-ins (sometimes as NET control), some DX, and lots of casual contacts
with QRP and portable/mobile stations.
I have been pleased with the receiver performance from day one, and after 18
months, it still holds pleasant surprises.
Just my opinion, but I hope it helps.
Regards
Dave
