[Elecraft] Interchangeable Boards

First the question, are the RF boards interchangeable between rigs? I know
they are with the same rig, but is there something about the alignment of the
boards that makes a perfectly aligned board need re-alignment if it is used
in another K-1?
Here's how/why the question comes up. I have had a K-1 setup with the 40/20
meter board and the ATU. I bought a newer version of the K1 (from S/N 8XX to
S/N 13XX) that came with a 30/17 meter board. I tried to swap the board
between the radios so my 40/20 with ATU will be in the newest radio.
Both boards work great in the original radios with over 5 watts out to a
dummy load on the lower bands. But when I swap the boards in radios, the
40/20 board's output is cut to about 3.5 watts in the newer radio. I'm
thinking a new alignment might help, but I can't get to the L1, L2, etc.
because the ATU board is in the way. The rig will not work with the ATU
removed because the original circuit board was modified for the ATU.
I've looked at the modifications and it seems that they would be impossible
to reverse for a new alignment. Any thoughts on this? I got into this because
I love this little radio so much. I ran across a deal on eBay for a newer
S/N, so I thought I would just swap the boards. Best laid plans, etc.
If I can't make the swap it may not matter. I really can't tell any
difference between the S/N 8XX and the S/N 1300 except the manuals seem about
a year apart.
