About 2 yrs ago I modified the stock VFO knobs of my K1 and K2 to provide a smooth rounded edge and make them lower profile. This included removing the painted metal insert, spinning the knob in a lathe, and using a combination of cutting tools, files, and sandpaper to achieve the desired result.

For the K1, I also switched to a metal-shaft pot, cut the shaft down ~ 1/16", and put a spacer between the pot and front panel. The VFO knob now protrudes out about the same as the AF gain and RIT knobs which makes the rig more compact and the VFO pot less vulnerable to damage. A side benefit is that I'm less likely to bump the VFO when using the other controls. Mojo seems unaffected.
